Wednesday February 21, 2024

Mogadishu (HOL) - The Banadir Regional Court began hearing the case against the accused, Sayid Ali Moallin Daoud, on Wednesday, who allegedly burnt his pregnant wife to death in Mogadishu last month.

The body of the deceased remains in the hospital as her family has refused to bury her until justice is served. The relatives of both parties, members of the public, lawyers, and prosecutors are attending the televised hearing case.

The victim, 28-year-old Luul Abdi Aziz Jazirain, was a pregnant woman and airport worker who died from injuries sustained after her husband allegedly set her on fire. Luul, a widow with six children, met her second husband at Mogadishu airport, where she worked.

Protesters held placards displaying photos of Luul Abdi Aziz Jazirain in her hospital bed, demanding that the Somali government prosecute Sayid Ali Abdi Haji Daoud. They insisted they would not proceed with burial rites until justice was achieved.
