Kismayo (HOL) – Jubbaland State First Vice President Mahmoud Sayid Adan has accused the federal government of meddling in Jubbaland's affairs, particularly in the contentious Gedo region.
Speaking in Dolow district, Gedo, on Sunday, Adan called on federal troops to uphold the law and resist unlawful directives. He criticized unnamed politicians from Jubbaland who have turned against the regional state.
Adan also defended his recent visit to Ethiopia, highlighting that it focused on enhancing security collaboration between Jubbaland and the Ethiopian government after the federal government prematurely pushed for withdrawing ATMIS forces from Sector 3, initially scheduled for December.
The Vice President also condemned the federal security minister, Abdullahi Fartag, and federal parliamentarians for their visit to Garbaharey district in Gedo.
The federal government has recently accused Jubbaland authorities of collaborating with al-Shabab militants in a recent assault on Somali National Army (SNA) forces in Raas Kambooni, a key coastal area in Lower Jubba. The attack led to an SNA retreat, further straining relations between Mogadishu and the semi-autonomous Jubbaland region.
Government intelligence reports allege that Jubbaland forces passed through al-Shabab-controlled areas before launching the offensive, claims that Jubbaland leadership has vehemently denied.
