Garowe (HOL) — Puntland authorities have heightened security in Garowe following the infiltration of suspected Al-Shabaab militants, raising concerns over potential threats in the region.
Security forces have launched nighttime operations, conducting extensive searches of vehicles and individuals throughout the city. In response, security checkpoints have been increased, and the working hours of security agencies have been extended.
“We urge all residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity,” said Governor Abdirahman Haji Abshir (Qaanqaa). “The safety of Garowe is our top priority.”
The move comes just days after ten Al-Shabaab members responsible for a series of attacks in Galkayo were executed. Al-Shabaab, a militant group with a history of violence in Somalia, has been behind numerous bombings and assassinations across the region.
Puntland remains on high alert, with authorities concerned about possible retaliatory attacks in the cities. Residents have been advised not to rent homes to unidentified individuals, and drivers have been cautioned against transporting unknown persons.
