Several feared dead as Southwest State forces clash with clan militia in Lower Shabelle region

    Mogadishu (HOL) — Several casualties are feared following a clash between Southwest State security forces and a clan militia in the Yaqbari Weyne district of Lower Shabelle on Thursday.

    According to residents, the confrontation occurred when the Southwest State Dervish forces launched an operation to dismantle illegal roadblocks set up by the militia.

    The roadblocks were reportedly being used to extort money from people and public vehicles traveling along the road connecting the Wanlaweyn and Burhakaba districts.

    Southwest State Security Minister Hassan Abd Qadir Mohamed said the administration had initially attempted to negotiate with the militia responsible for the roadblocks, but their refusal to cooperate led to the confrontation.

    The minister emphasized that the administration would not tolerate unauthorized checkpoints that disrupt public order and exploit civilians.
