MOGADISHU (Xinhua) -- The United Nations relief agency said 28.6 million U.S. dollars has so far been allocated for life-saving humanitarian response in Somalia in 2024.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the funds allocated by the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) has focused on life-saving interventions targeted at underserved and hard-to-reach areas.

The OCHA said the funds have enabled 54 humanitarian partners to provide immediate response to predicted flooding, devastating drought conditions, and the need to enhance safety, security and coordination.

The SHF allocated funds through two reserve allocations and one standard allocation, along with a 2-million-dollar Central Emergency Response Fund allocation that provided crucial resources to address the cholera outbreak, as the arrival of the Gu rains in early April threatened to expand transmission into previously unaffected regions, according to the OCHA, adding that the standard allocation has piloted the Integrated Response Framework and implemented multisectoral responses to prevent the deterioration in severity of needs.

"Inclusion of women, girls, and people with disabilities is ensured in every allocation. Ninety percent of the projects contribute in various ways to gender equality," the OCHA said.

The SHF is a multi-donor, country-based pooled fund, established to support the timely allocation and disbursement of donor resources to address the most urgent humanitarian needs.
