Speaking after the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Bare approved the 2024-2027 National Strategy for preventing and combating the extremist ideology that leads to violence, Abdullahi said the framework will empower the Tubsan Center to fulfill its mandate of building a peaceful and prosperous Somalia free from violent extremism.

He thanked the Prime Minister and Cabinet for approving the National Strategy after going through the prescribed procedures.

"This national strategy will empower the center to accomplish its goals and foster a collective resistance to violent extremism. By uniting all segments of society, we aim to create a peaceful and prosperous Somalia free from the scourge of terrorism," Abdullahi said in a statement.

The approval comes a few weeks after the government gunned down at least 80 suspected al Shabaab extremists.

He also expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the development and approval of the national strategy for preventing and combating extremist ideology.

Abdullahi noted that while Tubsan faces numerous challenges, including threats from extremist groups, the center has made significant strides in a relatively short period.

The Tubsan National Center for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (TNC-PCVE) is a multi-agency institution established by the Somali government in 2023.

Its primary mandate is to combat terrorism and violent extremism through a comprehensive approach that includes prevention, counterterrorism, and rehabilitation.

The center operates as a coordinating body, bringing together government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners to develop and implement effective counterterrorism strategies.

One of Tubsan's key objectives is to engage with communities at the grassroots level, promoting resilience and fostering a rejection of extremist ideologies by empowering local leaders and youth, to create a more secure and inclusive society.
