Sunday April 21, 2024

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met with Vladimir Orlié, Serbian Presidential Envoy for the Horn of Africa, at his office in Mogadishu on Saturday.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barre and the envoy discussed enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between Serbia and Somalia. Barre thanked the Serbian government for its steadfast support in rebuilding the Somali security sector and army.

Mr. Vladimir conveyed a message from the Serbian President to PM Hamza and commended the Somali government for the progress and achievements made in the ongoing operations against al-Shabab terrorists.

Last year, a unit of 60 Somali special security officers completed an intensive four-month training program at the Marshal Josip Broz Tito Special Forces Training School in Belgrade, Serbia, and returned to Somalia.

The program aimed to boost the security and protection of Somali political leaders, including the President, and visiting foreign dignitaries amidst continuous efforts to stabilize the country and combat terrorism.
