Nairobi (HOL) — Somali President
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud offered condolences to President William Ruto and
the people of Kenya following the death of Kenya's military chief,
Francis Ogolla, in a helicopter crash on Thursday.
During a phone call, President Mohamud conveyed his deepest sympathies to the families of General Francis Ogolla and the other military personnel who died in the accident, which occurred in the western part of the country.
President Mohamud reiterated Somalia's support and solidarity with the Kenyan people during the difficult time.
The helicopter crashed shortly after take-off on Thursday afternoon local time, killing Ogolla and nine other members of the military, President William Ruto announced in a televised address. Two people survived the crash, he added.
According to presidential spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, following the crash, Ruto convened an urgent meeting of the country's National Security Council in Nairobi.
