Airstrike kills 50 al-Shabab militants in Mudug region

    Dhusamareb (HOL) - At least 50 al-Shabab militants were killed in an airstrike conducted by Somali army forces supported by international partners near Harardhere district in the Mudug region on Monday.

    State-owned media reported that the airstrike occurred in the Barag Garguurte area, approximately 20 kilometres from the Harardhere district in the southern part of the Mudug region.

    The Somali News Agency reported that a senior leader in the group named Ahmed Jiis was among those killed in the attack.

    “The terrorist militants had gathered in the Barag Garguurte area to attempt an attack on the local people near Harardhere district, but they were thwarted,” the Somali News Agency report added.

    The attack in Barag Garguurte coincided with most of the areas in the southern part of the Mudug region being under the control of the al-Shabab group.
