Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali security forces have intensified military operations against the al-Shabab group in Lower Shabelle and Middle Shabelle regions following the group's recent attacks on army bases.
Eritrea-trained Somali forces are conducting planned operations in the forest area between Mara-Ade, Galka Salimow, and Garas Wayne areas in the Lower Shabelle region on Thursday, where members of the group were reported to have strongholds.
No casualties have been reported as the operations persist.
Similarly, operations have been reported in the past few hours in the Middle Shabelle region's Daru Nicma, El-bal'ad, and Burka Fiiqe areas.
A federal government official stated that the army, with the support of local militia forces, destroyed the group's bases in these areas but did not mention the number of casualties during the operation.
