Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali military court sentenced two men to death on Saturday for killing several people in Galkacyo, the capital of the Mudug region.
The men facing the death penalty are Anas Abdukhadir Ali Mohamud known as Salman, and Adan Mursal Mohamed Moalim, who goes by the alias Idow. They had previously received a death sentence from the first instance court on May 22, 2023.
According to the court's findings, the two men were found guilty of murdering several people, including Elmi Ali Guled, Abdi Adan Siad, and Mohamed Jama Mohamed. These victims were targeted as they left mosques in Galkacyo town.
The security forces apprehended Anas and Adan on April 17, 2023, while attempting to plant a landmine on the road to target a military vehicle belonging to the Somali elite Danab forces, who the US government trains.
Last week, the military court in Puntland, a semi-autonomous region in Somalia, sentenced three men found to be members of al-Shabab militants. The court convicted Mohamed Deeq Salad Abdi to 20 years, Ismail Daud Jirow Harfanay to 30 years, and Abdulkhadir Abukar Sheikh Mohamed to 15 years.
