Mahas (HOL) - Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Abdirisaaq Omar Mohamed, has stated that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Mahas district to accelerate military operations against al-Shabaab in Hirshabelle and Galmudug.
Speaking in Mahas district on Sunday, Minister Mohamed, who previously held the position of Minister of Internal Security , emphasized the strategic importance of Mahas district in the ongoing fight against militants. He noted that security forces had previously liberated this area from the group.
"As you know, the president has been in Dhusamareb for a month to intensify the battle against al-Shabaab. Now, he has come to strengthen these efforts further and address any ambiguities in the operations in the Galgadud region," Minister Abdirisaaq Omar said.
President Hassan Sheikh, who arrived in Mahas on Sunday afternoon, immediately commenced meetings with regional officials and army commanders to discuss and plan the resumption of operations in the Hiiraan region.
