Somali army chief boosts morale as troops get army promotions in Middle Shabelle region

Friday September 1, 2023

Jowhar (HOL) - Hirshabelle Regional State President Ali Hussein Gudlawe Hussein, along with the country's Army Chief, General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadin, the Chairman of the Military Court, Colonel Shute, and lawmakers, visited the Somali National Army and local militia forces based in Darulnaim, located in the Middle Shabelle region, on Thursday.

During the visit, the Army Commander promoted each of the soldiers in Darulnaim by one rank to acknowledge their dedication to defending and working towards liberating several strategically essential areas in the region. He also committed to increasing the soldiers' pay according to their rank, a change from the previous practice.

President Guudlawe further contributed to the army's morale by giving camels to the commanders and urging them to intensify their efforts in anti-al-Shabaab operations to liberate the remaining areas controlled by the group.

The spokesperson for Ahlu Suna Waljamaa, Sheikh Abdulkadir Somow, and other delegates, including Army Chief General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadin, also conducted an inspection of the army stationed in Alkhowther village within the Middle Shabelle region. As a gesture of support, the spokesperson for Ahlu Suna Waljamaa donated six camels to motivate their continued dedication to the fight against the insurgent group.

This army's motivation comes as a response to the need to accelerate military operations across the country following a setback suffered by the government army in the Galgadud region. Reports indicate that Somali government troops had retreated from El Dheer, Masagaway, Gal'ad, and Budbud in the Galgadud region after a deadly al-Shabaab attack on soldiers in Cowsweyne village on Saturday.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud pledged that the military operations against al-Shabab will not stop until final victory is achieved.
