Ali Jeyte Osman, who locals reportedly elected as the Hiiraan State President of an administration not recognized by the federal government, has yet to comment on his appointment to this new role.

Back in September, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, along with politicians, traditional elders, and lawmakers from the Hawadle community, agreed to intensify military operations against the militants following a meeting in Mahas district in the Hiiraan region.

Beledweyne, located approximately 300 kilometres north of Mogadishu, has recently become the center of local community mobilization against al-Shabab. Local officials, including Ali Jeyte Osman, led community forces who supported the Somali government forces, seizing dozens of villages from the militant group.
