Galkacyo (HOL) - Puntland Police forces have apprehended 75 people
in connection with the rape and murder of an 11-year-old boy in Galkacyo town.
Police Officer Samatar Abdullahi Awkah stated on Monday that the
tragic incident occurred in an Internally Displaced Persons camp, where the victim's family resided. The officer stressed that everyone in
the vicinity of the crime scene has been detained, and he vowed that the
perpetrators would face justice as investigations are ongoing.
According to reports, the Puntland Agency for DNA Forensic
Science is expected to release its findings in the coming hours.
In a related case from 2020, the Puntland region of
northeastern Somalia executed two men, Abdifatah Abdirahman Warsame, 24, and
Abdishakur Mohamed Dige, 46, who had raped and brutally murdered 12-year-old
Aisha Ilyas Aden. The girl was abducted near her home, subjected to a gang
rape, and tragically killed in the town of Galkayo in February 2019. The two
men were executed by firing squad in the town of Bosaso.
