Jowhar (HOL) - A prominent Quran teacher and four of his students were tragically killed on Saturday night in an inter-clan revenge attack in Haji Ali village in the Adale district of the Middle Shabelle region.
The five victims have been identified as Moalim Mukhtar Moalim Mohamud Yusuf, Omar Ahmed Yusuf, Mukhtar Ahmadey Moalim Mohamud, Mohamed Mohamud Ali Faradar, and Abukar Mohamed Mohamud Ali Faradar.
According to eyewitnesses and residents, the Quran teacher and his students were returning to their homes after reciting the Quran for a sick person when militia members ambushed them on the road.Former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and politicians from the Middle Shabelle region have strongly condemned the recent resurgence in inter-clan conflict in the region and emphasized the need to bring those responsible for the killing of civilians in Haji Ali village to justice.
However, over a dozen people have been killed in inter-clan fighting in the areas over the past few days.
