Somali Prime Minister calls on business community to drive governance modernization

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre has urged the Somali business community to play a pivotal role in modernizing Somalia's governance system, especially in light of the growing investment opportunities in the country.

    Addressing representatives from the Somali Private Sector in Mogadishu on Tuesday, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of fostering a conducive environment for cooperation between the public and private sectors to harmonize the country's economic development priorities.

    "Our government is steadfast in its commitment to creating an environment that fosters the prosperity of private businesses, promotes business innovation, and fuels both foreign and domestic investments," he added.

    Prime Minister Hamsa underscored the importance of instigating changes to garner community commitment. He urged business leaders and owners to actively participate in addressing security, economic development, and the delivery of social services that necessitate collective attention.

    President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Monday unveiled a strategic plan designed to transform the country's governance system. This plan, known as the Modern Governance Strategic Direction Program, seeks to enhance public service delivery and introduce transparency into the governance framework.

    Mohamud expressed the ambition of actively shaping Somalia's future as the country looks ahead to 2060. "Our concerted efforts should be directed toward developing a strategic plan that will guide the nation's progress in the coming decades," Mohamud said.
