Galmudug State officials injured in al Shabab attack in central Somalia

    Dhusamareb (HOL) - Deputy Commissioner of Guriel district Shaafi Abdi Jama and the Commander of the district's police station, Osman Hudeey, were reportedly injured during an attack by al-Shabab in the Barujeed area of Galgadud region on Sunday.

    Reports indicate that the deputy commissioner and the commander were part of the reinforcement troops dispatched to support forces under attack at their base in the area.

    The commissioner of Guriel district in Galmudug, Farah Abdi Moalim, told local media that the military and local militia successfully repelled the group's attack on the army base, resulting in heavy losses for al-Shabab.

    The government forces maintained two major bases in the area.

    The group's attack occurred just two days after the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism reported that elite forces of the Somali National Army, with support from international partners, conducted an overnight operation in Shabellow forest in the southern Mudug region in central Somalia. This operation resulted in the elimination of 20 al-Shabab militants.
