Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali National Army killed two al-Shabaab militants in a military operation in the Garilow area in Janale district of the Lower Shabelle region, on Sunday night.
Speaking to local media, a military officer said that the army also successfully confiscated two firearms, explosives, and motorbikes during the planned operation. He added that this operation was part of the continuous efforts to combat al-Shabaab in southern Somalia.
The operation comes a day after the President of South West Regional State, Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, announced the commencement of the second phase of anti-al-Shabab operations in South West State.
The President emphasized the need for unity in the fight to eliminate the group, which is now in its final stages. "The people and the government must stand up to fight against Al-Shabaab. There is no room for self-defence anymore."
