Ethiopia's embassy in the Sudanese capital Khartoum was attacked and damaged by heavy weapons on Tuesday morning, the Ethiopian ambassador there has confirmed.

No casualties were reported in the attack but the embassy’s building was partially damaged, Yibeltal Ayimiro Alemu, the Ethiopian ambassador to Sudan, told the BBC.

He said they were evaluating the scale of the damage, without giving more details.

The Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been fighting with army since 15 April, has blamed the army for the attack.

The Sudanese army has not commented on the alleged attack.

It is not the first time the Ethiopian embassy in Khartoum has been attacked.

An employee of the Ethiopian embassy in Sudan told the BBC that the embassy was attacked by air strike three weeks ago wounding a security guard. It also shattered windows of the embassy's building.

An internal war between the warring forces has left more than 5,000 people dead, according to the UN.

More than five million people have been displaced.
