Somali Prime Minister attends funeral prayer for former mayor of Mogadishu

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, along with the speakers of the Somali parliament and former government leaders, attended the funeral prayer for the former mayor of Mogadishu, Ali Ugas Abdulle, in Mogadishu on Monday afternoon.

The family of the former Mogadishu mayor announced his death on Monday morning after he had been hospitalized over the past few days. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and other political leaders expressed their condolences to the late Ali Ugas' family, particularly Ugas Mohamud Ali Ugas, the leader of the Mudulood community, and the Somali people.

The President acknowledged that Ali Ugas Abdulle had served the Somali people for an extended period, especially during the country's challenging times. He described Ali Ugas Abdulle as a veteran politician and peacemaker who played a significant role in promoting peace, reconciliation, and the welfare of the Somali people.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the late Ali Ugas Abdulle had been a devoted patriot who had demonstrated unwavering love and loyalty to his country, qualities for which he was renowned throughout his lifetime.

Ali Ugas Abdulle had previously served as the mayor of Mogadishu from 1987 to 1990, and in 2005, he represented the country as Ambassador to Italy.
