Jowhar (HOL) - A massive fire engulfed a market in Jowhar town, the interim capital of the Hirshabelle regional state, on Saturday night.
Images shared on social media showed flames and billowing clouds of smoke filling the night sky over the town. According to traders, the fire started in a bakery in the heart of the Hantiwadag neighbourhood.
Despite the fire causing extensive damage to numerous retail businesses, local officials have not yet commented on any casualties.
This fire occurred less than two months after another massive fire tore through the same market, resulting in substantial property losses. The traders have not heeded the lessons from previous disasters.
Hirshabelle's main cities face a significant challenge due to the lack of fire-fighting vehicles, which hampers their ability to respond promptly and effectively to fires.
