Mogadishu (HOL) - The leader of the SSC-Khatumo administration, Abdikhadir Ahmed Aw-Ali Firdhiye, urged Puntland leaders and opposition groups to resolve the election dispute through political dialogue on Sunday.
Mr. Firdhiye expressed the hope that traditional elders in Garowe town would intervene in the dispute between politicians to prevent further conflict, which could impede the regional state’s democratic process.
The statement from SSC-Khatumo leaders comes amid concerns that the stalemate between President Deni and the opposition may escalate into violence.
On Saturday, Catriona Laing, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia, visited Garowe, where she met with Puntland regional state leaders, led by Said Abdullahi Deni and Vice President Ahmed Elmi Karash.
During the meeting, various issues were discussed, including the humanitarian situation in the Sool region, the impacts of the El Nino rains, and the upcoming Puntland elections.
