Mogadishu (HOL) - Police in Mogadishu have apprehended a man who brutally killed an Imam at a mosque in Garasbaley village on the outskirts of Mogadishu on Wednesday.
According to the police, Mukhtar Ali Hussein, also a Muadhan of the mosque, killed Moalim Ibrahim Abdi Abdulle, the mosque's Imam. Mukhtar used a machete to kill the Imam inside the mosque, injuring another man before fleeing.
Eyewitnesses stated that the killing occurred following a dispute between the killer and a young boy who was an imam's helper. The most surprising incident was that the Muadin who committed the murder led the morning prayer, while the Imam who was killed led the same prayer.
"The Muadin of the mosque killed the Imam of the mosque inside the mosque around breakfast time after the killer argued with a young man who was the victim's helper. They argued over a photograph taken, but no one knows how or where it was taken, so the killer wanted to murder the young man before the Imam (the victim) intervened," a resident told the local media.
