Kismayo (HOL) - A mortar attack in the Bardhere district of the Gedo region killed at least four people, including a mother and her children on Tuesday. According to residents, the attack killed the mother, her two children, and a male guest, while two other children from the same family were injured.
The al-Qaeda-affiliated militants, Al-Shabab, launched the mortar shells into the district shortly after carrying out a suicide bombing in Bardhere in the southern Gedo region earlier that morning.
A resident stated that a car filled with explosives was detonated at a building in the district's center, which housed regional officials early on Tuesday. The attack killed two soldiers, injured an unspecified number of other people, and injured the governor of the Gedo region, who was taken to Mogadishu for medical attention.
The group claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that a bomber drove a suicide car bomb into a building where regional officials were meeting to plan anti-al-Shabab mobilization.
On March 7th, the group launched a complex attack on a military base in Janaa Cabdalle, located 60 kilometers west of Kismayo, killing at least five soldiers.
