London (HOL) - The former Somali embassy in London, an iconic Grade II listed building that once served as a diplomatic post and even graced a Hitchcock movie, has now been transformed into a luxurious private mansion. It is currently on the market for a whopping £21.5 million.

The mansion on Portland Place in the Marylebone district of central London is a five-bedroom Georgian townhouse between Oxford Circus and Regent's Park. It has been recently refurbished by renowned interior designer Hubert Zandberg and architectural designer Jan Swanepoel. While its classic exterior facade has been preserved, the mansion boasts a fully modernized interior.

A number of embassies of diplomatic institutions remain in the area, including the  Chinese embassy, the Polish Embassy, a Portuguese consulate, the High Commission of Kenya, the Swedish Ambassador's Residence and the Colombian Consulate.

Somalia officially reopened its London embassy at a different location on Feb. 9, after a hiatus of 32 years. The new embassy, located at Winchester House on Old Marylebone Road, offers consular services to an estimated 500,000 UK residents of Somali descent. The original Somali Embassy in London closed in 1991 following the collapse of Somalia's central government.
