Approximately 150 Somali seniors from the four Rochester Public Schools (RPS) participated in the event. SASSA Sports Coordinator, Ali Abdi, expressed his strong support for these young achievers, stating, "The SASSA is our organization. That always supports the youth. This is the second year to celebrate our youth in high school, every year doing well with their education."

An exhibition basketball game at the RCTC Regional Sports Centre was the highlight of the festivities. The game embodied the fusion of education and community that defines SASSA's mission by allowing students to celebrate their athletic and academic achievements in a fun and engaging way.

The event also provided an opportunity to discuss ongoing challenges. SASSA founder Omar Nur highlighted the lack of affordable housing as the most significant obstacle currently facing immigrants in Rochester. He mentioned ongoing efforts to engage city leaders in discussions about creating more space for youth to practice and play sports.

Founded in 2012, SASSA has been working to improve the situation of immigrants in Olmsted County through education, health, business, and social services. The organization focuses on issues such as youth drug use and violence within the local Somali community. It advocates for public health, education, women empowerment, and small business support.

SASSA is also committed to ensuring fair housing and accessibility for all, aligning with its goal to empower the community through sustainable development programs.

The event concluded with the presentation of a trophy and medals to the winning team of the basketball game, with organizers voicing their intent to make this a continuing tradition.
