Jigjiga (HOL) – At least four people have died, and 24 others were wounded in a head-on collision between a vehicle transporting Khat and a train in the Somali regional state of Ethiopia on Saturday.
The crash took place near the Shiniile district. The vehicle was en route to Harey, a small town in the Shiniile district, while the train from Djibouti was heading towards Dire Dawa town in Ethiopia.
Eyewitnesses reported that the train from Djibouti collided with the car carrying Khat. Those with more serious injuries were transported to the hospital in the Shinile district.
The local Somali authorities have not commented on the incident, although such accidents are not uncommon along the lengthy railway line that connects Djibouti and Diri Daba town in Ethiopia.
