Federal Parliament suspends sessions for Hajj and Eid, sets date for resumption

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Speaker of the Lower House of the Federal Parliament, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, chaired the 23rd meeting of the Standing Committee of the People's Assembly in Mogadishu on Thursday.

    The meeting's agenda revolved around temporarily postponing Parliament sessions during the Hajj pilgrimage and the Eid holiday and presenting reports concerning government accountability.

    During the meeting, lawmakers agreed to suspend the People's Assembly session starting next Saturday, which falls on June 17, 2023. Additionally, the committee announced that Assembly sessions would resume on July 5, 2023.

    The committee also requested the government to submit the budget audit by June 30, in accordance with Article 102, Clause 1 of the bylaws of the House of People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia.

    In the middle of the week, Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre appeared before the standing committee after being summoned to address questions. The discussion primarily focused on strengthening cooperation between the executive and legislative branches of the Somali government.
