Mogadishu (HOL) - In a suspected al-Shabab attack on Friday night, three government soldiers were killed at an army checkpoint in the Daynile district of Mogadishu. The unidentified attackers swiftly escaped the scene post-attack, with no group yet claiming responsibility for the incident.
Arriving in a minibus, the militants targeted the Tiida checkpoint on the road connecting Daynile and Darussalam. Without warning, they opened fire on the soldiers stationed at the checkpoint before managing to flee the area.
The rarity of such attacks by Al-Shabaabi in recent months is noteworthy, as this is the first major attack on an army checkpoint in the capital for some time. The attack in the Daynile district has ignited concerns among some residents about the efficacy of security efforts in the capital.
