Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre reshuffled his cabinet on Saturday, appointing Bihi Iman Egeh as the new Minister of Finance and Dr. Mohamed Emi Ibrahim as new Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.
Sadat Mohamed Nur Aliyow as the Minister of State for the Interior. Abukar Jeilani Sheikh as Minister of State for Religion and Endowment. The move, which took place on Saturday, follows a controversial decision by the outgoing Finance Minister to reinstate officials accused of corruption.
This controversial move came just days before the cabinet reshuffle.
Nur defended his decision as a stern warning to the officials, suggesting that the reinstatement would offer them an opportunity to improve their conduct.
The reason for Nur's surprising reversal remains unclear, although there are speculations that Nur faced pressure from Villa Somalia.
