Mogadishu (HOL)- The Director General of the Somali Immigration and Nationality Agency, Abdulqadir Elmi Ali, known as Abdul, has resigned amid corruption and public funds embezzlement accusations. He has denied these accusations, claiming they are politically motivated.
Abdul announced his resignation on Friday after submitting it to the Ministry of Internal Security. The accusations against him are part of a broader investigation by the National Public Prosecutor's Office,
implicating 18 individuals in total.
Abdul expressed his skepticism about receiving a fair trial, highlighting his concerns about the lack of an impartial judge. He has publicly refuted the accusations and maintains his innocence.
During Abdul's tenure, he claims the agency didn't manage any income, yet he notes the Immigration and Naturalization Service's revenue rose by 40% under his leadership. Despite the ongoing controversy, Abdul insists his commitment to the rule of law remains steadfast.
