Al Shabab militants target mosque in Middle Shabelle, Somali government says

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali government has released the aftermath of an explosion attack at a mosque in the Daru-nimca area of the Middle Shabelle region. They have accused Al Shabab militants of attacking on Friday.

    Photos of the damaged mosque buildings were shown on Somali national television, but no casualties were mentioned.

    “Al Shabab had previously targeted a large mosque in the Bula-Burde district of the Hiraan region, the Qayyib mosque, and the Bahdo mosque in the Galgaduud region. However, the security forces protected the mosques. Other mosques in their areas were closed off to prevent people from gathering and learning,” as reported by SNTV.

    Al Shabab militants have not commented on the incident; independent confirmation is currently unavailable.

    Since the Somali government-led anti-Al Shabab operation began in the past year, the militants have lost control of several areas to the Somali national army and local militant forces.
