Hargeisa (HOL) - Somaliland Military Commander Nuh Ismail Tani denied reports of armed forces entering Las Anod town and emphasized that the administration of the Sool region is under the control of the Somaliland army.
Speaking at a press conference in Hargeisa on Tuesday, Tani SAID that the army is in charge of the security of the Sool region and that the Somaliland army owned the armoured vehicles that escorted the traditional elders.
"We held this press conference to emphasize that Las Anod's security is in the hands of the national army. The cars that welcomed the elders were national army vehicles, "Commander Tani stated.
He stated that he had decided that no other vehicles would enter the region, thus not jeopardizing security.
Somaliland Military Commander Nuh Ismail Tani stated that Somaliland security forces would ensure the security of the upcoming conference in Las Anod.
He stated that the army would not listen to the criticism levelled at it and would carry on with its normal operations.
The supreme traditional clan chief of Sool, Sanaag and Ayn regions, Garad Jama Garad Ali, arrived in Las Anod town on Monday, marking his first visit since 2007 when the Somaliland administration took over the city.
Speaking in the center of the town, Garad Jama Garad Ali accused Somaliland of being behind the events in the city where over 20 civilians were killed during anti-Somaliland protests.
The clan leader said Hargeisa would no longer govern Las Anod.
