Kismayo (HOL) - Somali Special Forces (Danab), backed by US forces and Jubbaland regional state forces, conducted a planned military operation in the Lower Jubba region on Friday, killing at least 70 al-Shabab militants.
According to reports from regional-state-owned media, the military operation occurred in the Abodin area following an attack by the 16th battalion of the Danab commandos and Jubbaland forces. The area was targeted due to the militants' recent gathering activities.
Officials confirmed the involvement of US drones, providing support to Somali army forces.
The operation in the Lower Jubba region aligns with a concurrent effort where Somali security forces, aided by international partners, targeted al-Shabab militants' bases in the South Mudug region on Friday night.
Military officials reported that joint forces effectively destroyed the bases located in the Jehjeha forest between Aad and Adaley villages, where the militant group had been assembling over the past few days.
