Mogadishu (HOL) -The Commander of the Somali Land Forces, General Dayah Abdi Abdulle, currently on the front lines of the war against al-Shabaab in the Mudug region, has announced that the government continues offering amnesty for youths fighting for al-Shabaab.
In a statement on Sunday, General Abdulle called for the group's withdrawal, citing their significant losses.
"Reports from the region indicate that you are in disarray. You have deceived young children and misled their communities, igniting conflict in places that belong to their people. We are determined to return these misled youth to their families and rid the area of al-Shabaab," said General Dayah.
He lauded the local army's significant role in suppressing al-Shabaab in many parts of the country and praised local communities for their resilience.
"These locals have resisted capture and the destruction of their religion and lives. We are immensely grateful to them. Everyone must take responsibility, and we are committed to eradicating these elements from the Mudug region," General Dayah added.
