Former Somali deputy commissioner sentenced to five years for aiding al-Shabab

    Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali Ministry Court sentenced the former deputy commissioner of social affairs for Hamarweyne and Hodan districts in Mogadishu to five years in prison on Thursday for collaborating with al-Shabab militants.

    The court revealed that Abukar Salad Mohamud was responsible for transporting injured and sick members of the group abroad for treatment.

    "In 2021, he went to Ugunji in Lower Shabelle to establish a relationship with the group through an al-Shabab leader, Abdullahi Ibrahim, who was a relative," said a news release from the Prosecution Court.

    Abukar Salad Mohamud was the deputy commissioner of social affairs in the Hamarweyne and Hodan districts of Mogadishu from 2014 to 2019.
