Dhusamareb (HOL) - Al Shabab militants reportedly abandoned their army bases in the Dumaye and Dabaglo areas in the south of the Mudug region on Wednesday after facing pressure from Galmudug forces.
According to the Somali News Agency, the militants released six out of the 11 civilians who were kidnapped by the group in 2021 from the rural areas of Wisil, along with hundreds of camels. The government officials displayed the six civilians in Bajela village in the southern region of Mudug.
Security officials also stated that Dumaye and Dabaglo are strategic locations where the militants have launched attacks against government forces.
Despite this, Somali leaders have pledged to resume heavy military operations in Hirshabelle and Galmudug in the coming weeks. Just a few days ago, with the support of international partners, the Somali National Army killed over 60 al-Shabaab militants in the village of Hilow Ba'aad in the Hiiraan region, eight kilometres southwest of Halgan.
Military officials reported that the operation not only inflicted significant casualties on the militant group but also resulted in the destruction of several terrorist bases and the seizure of weapons.
