Mogadishu (HOL) - The 60th Division of the Somali National Army carried out a planned operation in the Bay region on Monday, resulting in the death of a senior al-Shabab leader, as reported by state-owned media.
Hussein Addow Jilibgaab, the head of the group responsible for extorting money from residents in the Bay, Bakool, and Gedo regions, was killed in an area situated between Mooda Mode and Dayununay in the Bay region.
The commander of the 47th Division, 8th Brigade of the Somali National Army, Ahmed Mohamed Nur Dhegey, stated that the operation was part of the ongoing anti-al-Shabab efforts, pledging that such operations would persist.
The killing of the leader comes as a suspected U.S. drone strike on Sunday evening targeting a residential area in Jilib, Middle Jubba, amid rising tensions within al-Shabaab's ranks. Reports indicated two significant explosions in an area serving as a hub for al-Shabaab leaders.
The casualties from this strike remain undisclosed, though
reports point to losses within Al-Shabaab.
