Five killed, ten wounded as rival clan militias clash in Sanaag region

    Hargeisa (HOL) - At least five people were killed and ten others wounded when two rival clan militias clashed in El-Afweyn district in Sanaag region on Saturday.

    According to Aqil Ibrahin Ismail Jama, a member of the El-Afweyn community, the conflict commenced on Friday but escalated significantly by Saturday.

    "Yesterday, the toll amounted to five lives lost and a dozen wounded. Presently, the conflict rages on, and the exact count of casualties remains uncertain," revealed Jiif Aqil Ibrahin.

    The motive behind the fighting is unknown, but there have been inter-clan clashes in the district for the last few years.

    The Somaliland government has yet to release a statement regarding the inter-clan fighting, as the Somaliland leaders focus on the fight between Somaliland and SCC-Khatumo forces, which has been taking place in Las Anod town for the last eight months.
