Hargeisa (HOL) - Hargeisa's Mayor, Abdikarin Ahmed Mooge, has refuted claims that he joined Somaliland's ruling party, Kulmiye. This comes after the party announced on three separate occasions that Mooge had become a member.
During a brief interview with Galaydh Media at Hargeisa's Freedom Park, Mooge unequivocally dismissed the Kulmiye party's allegations."I want to make it clear that I am not affiliated with that party. No one else can define or label my political allegiances. If I were joining a party, it would be evident to everyone. I have no current association with any party," Mooge emphasized.
Previously a member of the opposition party, Waddani, Mooge has been noticeably absent from their meetings recently, sparking rumors about his political affiliations. However, he asserted that his primary focus is now on the advancement of Hargeisa.
"I did leave the Waddani party, but I haven't joined another. My time is limited, and my main commitment is to serve the responsibilities for which the people of Hargeisa elected me," he stated.
It's noteworthy that Mooge, a long-time advocate against tribalism, secured a significant electoral victory in Hargeisa. He received the majority of votes during the regional councilors' election on May 31, 2021.
Post-election, Mooge expressed his dedication to upholding the commitments he made to his constituents and voiced his intention to act as a mediator in political disputes within Somaliland.
