Mogadishu (HOL) - At least three Somali soldiers were killed and others wounded during a nighttime clash between two rival forces in Mogadishu.
The confrontation was between Somali police forces and military forces loyal to a former military Captain named Sheegow Ahmed Ali, in the Kawo-Godey neighbourhood in the Dharkenley district on Friday night.
Somali police spokesman Sadiq Adan Ali Doodishe, speaking at a press conference on Saturday morning, stated that the skirmish erupted when security forces, on a mission, encountered the troops led by Captain Shegow, whom he described as militias.
"Two slain soldiers were affiliated with Captain Shegow's forces, while the third was a police officer. Additionally, four other security personnel sustained injuries. There were no civilian casualties," he added. The security forces captured the Captain and 24 of his military personnel from his residence, where was the clash's epicenter. The police accused him of destabilizing the security of the capital
and fighting against the security forces. The Police spokesman alleged that stolen mobile phones and fake bank notes were found in his
home.
Residents have reported that the situation has since returned to normal.
