Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali National Army (SNA), backed by international partners, has killed at least 20 al-Shabab militants in a planned military operation in southern Somalia.
The operation took place in the Ali Fuuto area, situated 35 kilometres from the Kuntuwaray district in Lower Shabelle, on Thursday night.
Military officials stated that the army executed a targeted assault on two houses where the group was assembling militants and devising explosive devices for impending attacks. During the operation, the army destroyed the houses and killed the militants who were in preparations.
The South West administration recently declared its intent to conduct regular offensives against al-Shabaab in areas under the group's control.
Last night, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reiterated his commitment to liberate the country from al-Shabaab militants by the end of 2023, as the government prepared a force of 20,000 Somali soldiers for a wide-ranging offensive against the armed group of al-Shabab.
