Dhusamareb (HOL) - Somali National Army (SNA), backed by international partners, killed five al Shabaab militants in a military operation near Galcad district, Galgadud region, on Tuesday morning.
The federal government stated that the operation occurred 35 km southeast of the Galcad district, where the militants gathered to stage attacks.
The final preparations for a massive operation to liberate areas under al Shabaab control in Galmudug are currently underway in Dhusamareb, the capital of the Galmudug administration. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has led a series of meetings with elders and army commanders in Dhusamareb since the last week.
In recent months, the army and local clan militias have retaken chunks of territory in an operation backed by US air raids and an African Union (AU) force known as ATMIS whose mandate ended in June.
