Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Security Forces, backed by international partners, conducted a military operation in the Galhareri district of Galmudug State, targeting three al Shabab positions over the past few days.
Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism said on Thursday that the joint forces attacked a garage where explosives were being prepared, destroying seven vehicles, a weapons warehouse and a medical equipment facility for the group.
The federal government expressed gratitude to both the local people and international allies for their support in the ongoing anti-al Shabab operations in Galmudug and Hirshabelle.
In a separate development, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, alongside Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qorqor, presided over a Council of Ministers meeting at both the Federal and Galmudug State levels in Dhusamareeb town on Thursday.
The discussions during the meeting encompassed the security landscape, the short-term strategy for liberating areas under al Shabaab's control, and the acceleration of robust mobilization efforts in Galmudug, with active participation from residents in the country's liberation endeavours.
President Mohamud emphasized that the Federal Government has outlined a comprehensive anti-terrorism policy encompassing three key dimensions: the economy, ideological aspects, and frontline combat. He highlighted that the initiation of the second phase of operations is imminent.
