Suicide bombing kills five people in Hiiraan region

    Beledweyne (HOL) - A suicide bomber killed five people in a restaurant in Jalalaqsi district, some 160 kilometres north of Mogadishu, on Thursday afternoon.

    Eyewitnesses recounted that District Commissioner Nur Dhere and other members of the district administration had left the restaurant just moments before the attack.

    "The explosion occurred just minutes after Nur had vacated his seat at the restaurant. However, well-known people in the district, including Mohamed Ahmed Dhagacade and Farah Boosey, lost their lives in the attack," an eyewitness recounted.

    No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but al Shabab often targets hotels and restaurants in similar incidents.

    This incident follows a similar event in January when a powerful car bomb, claimed by al-Shabab, resulted in multiple fatalities in the district.
