Government forces intercept a car bomb bound for Mogadishu

Thursday August 10, 2023

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency intercepted an explosives-rigged vehicle in Elasha Biyaha, located about 15 km south of Mogadishu, on Wednesday following a security operation.

According to state-owned media reports, the intelligence forces shot and killed the vehicle's driver after he attempted to escape.

"The NISA forces killed a Khawarij terrorist driving a car loaded with explosives tonight in the Elasha Biyaha area on the outskirts of Mogadishu. The car bomb was destined for Mogadishu," stated the state media.

This interception comes a two-day after the Somali National Army (SNA), with the support of international partners, targeted an oversized garage in the Mukayle area of the Bulaburte district in the Hiiraan region where the militants were preparing explosive devices.

However, the federal government did not disclose the precise number of militants killed during the operation, but it emphasized it would provide information about the casualties.
