Mogadishu (HOL) - Residents in Mogadishu's Karan district apprehended two suspected al-Shabab militants after allegedly killing a government soldier on Wednesday.
Somali police spokesman Major Sadiq Aden Ali Doodishe told state-owned media that the two men were handed over to security forces to be brought to justice.
"The soldier was killed in Nagile, but the killers were nabbed in the Jamhuuriya neighbourhood of the Karan district as they attempted to escape," the spokesman said.
Two weeks ago, a suspected al-Shabab militant was apprehended by angry civilians after threatening a businessman with a firearm. Major Sadiq Aden stated that the era of terrorism has come to an end and urged the public to work with security forces.
Government forces backed by local people have been engaged in an offensive against al Shabab in several parts of the country, killing over 500 militants and recapturing over 40 villages from the militants in the last two months.
