Government forces capture a village in Galgadud region

Wednesday November 9, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali government forces backed by local clan militia forces took complete control of Wabho village in the Galgadud region after al Shabab group withdrew its militants from the area on Tuesday.

Ministry of Defence Spokesman Abdullahi Ali Aanood told local media on Wednesday that the joint forces conducted a mine search operation inside and outside the district on Tuesday night.

He added that the joint forces also captured Warhoolo, a small village situated between El buur and Guriel towns.

The Ministry of Defense spokesman emphasized that the operation to liberate Wabho was part of the operation to liberate the Galgadud districts and villages under the control of the al-Shabab group.

However, in the last 24 hours, government forces and local clan militia forces have liberated 200 kilometers of land in the Galgaduud region.

Security analysts told HOL that the forces are now preparing to attack El buur, one of the most important towns under al-Shabab control.

On Monday, military forces repulsed an attack by al-Shabab militants on a military base in the village of Qayib in Somalia's central state of Galmudug.

The attack started with a car bombing, followed by two hours of fierce fighting between the army and al-Shabab militants. Speaking to Somali government-run radio, military Colonel Hassan Jamici said the army inflicted heavy casualties on them.
