Hassan Sheikh Mohamud picks his Chief of Staff in first official move as president

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's new President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has made his first appointment, tapping Hussein Sheikh Mohamud as his new Chief of Staff on Monday, hours after the outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo handed over full power to the new President.

    The former one-term Senator Hussein Sheikh Mohamud will replace Mohamed Abdullahi Isse.

    In a decree from Villa Somalia, the President said that Hussein Sheikh is an example of the role that Somali youth will play in rebuilding the state and reconciling the people of Somalia.

    The new presidential chief of staff was born in Hudur, the capital of the Bakol region, in 1982. He later moved to Mogadishu, where he completed a Master's degree in Development Studies. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Peace and governance.
